Amidst a summer already marked by intense heat, France and Luxembourg are bracing for their fourth significant heatwave. Starting July 28, temperatures are anticipated to rise steeply, posing potential dangers as they remain elevated into early August.
The heatwave is set to originate in southwestern France, progressively affecting most of the country. Forecasts predict temperatures could soar to 40–41°C in certain areas, with widespread regions experiencing highs between 35°C and 38°C. Compounding the discomfort, nighttime temperatures are expected to linger above 20°C in various locations, providing minimal respite from the sweltering conditions.
In Luxembourg, a swift escalation in temperatures is expected following a relatively cooler start to the week. By Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures are projected to reach between 33°C and 36°C under predominantly clear skies.
Experts caution that this prolonged heatwave might persist into early August, exacerbating existing drought conditions and elevating the risk of wildfires across the affected areas. The ongoing heat raises significant concerns as communities brace for the challenges it brings.
